Inside the new production plant in Sesto San Giovanni, on a total surface area of approximately 20,000 m2, the following buildings have been built.
Production Building called “A”: consisting of a single-storey building, with a mezzanine section, intended for laboratories, with three main bays and an internal portion dedicated to a showroom warehouse and smaller rooms. On the opposite side, at the head of bays A and B, the structure and roof of the shed continue to form a covered area for loading and preparing product packaging.
Test lab 245W called “A-Test Lab 245 KV”: Inside the Building A shed, a test lab has been created that is electrically isolated from the rest of the building. Test Lab Building called “B-Test Lab”: the heart of the laboratory is the test room, an enormous Faraday cage, used by Alstom to test both its own products and those of high voltage material manufacturers from all over the world.
The building consists of a single volume isolated from the other buildings from an electrostatic point of view. The room is equipped with 2.8 million Volt pulse generators to test the resistance to lightning and with a direct current generator to carry out electrical tests in voltage up to 2.2 million Volts.
The limit value of the radio frequency disturbance was defined in the design phase as 2pC of equivalent electrical charge. The tests and trials at the end of the works measured maximum values equal to 1 pC, an exceptional result and never found in other test rooms built in the world. The Office Building, called "C" is a building dedicated to management, commercial and executive activities, built partially in adherence to the production building to which it is connected with two connection paths.
The building consists of two floors above ground and the technical bodies on the roof floor. The roof floor is planned to house the technological systems serving both the production unit and the offices themselves. Guardiania Building, called “D”: isolated building with one floor above ground dedicated to housing the access control service, located on the north/west border with direct access from the outside and from the square.
