The renovation project for the new Chef Express has led to the creation of a single large building that houses a large Food Court, with new spaces designed to maximize the commercial surface area and a layout characterized by linear paths, the result of an image study aimed at harmonizing the different concepts of the environment. The project for the outdoor spaces was created with the aim of providing customers with a wide choice of services and comforts, including a Moto Park, a fenced and video-monitored play area, a Picnic area with sun and/or rain cover and free Wi-Fi, a fenced Pet area and an Easy camper area equipped for campers to stop. The architectural design was curated by Iosa Ghini Associati, with particular attention to environmental sustainability issues, while the executive design and engineering services were entrusted to Politecnica, one of the leading Italian integrated design companies (architecture, engineering and urban planning). The building has been completely regenerated and insulated with an external cladding of over 1000 m2 of silver fir laminated wood, so as to minimize its air conditioning systems and avoid waste. Compared to the carbon print, wood, an eco-sustainable material par excellence, also performs the virtuous function of absorbing CO2 that does not go into the atmosphere. Finally, the cladding also becomes the “visible” figure of the project philosophy, giving an unmistakable imprint to the renovated area. Energy saving is completed by the installation of devices to limit the use of electricity and a photovoltaic system, by the use of lighting with new LED technology, and by the heating and air conditioning system with a new high-efficiency system. All this has led to a saving of over 500,000 kWh equivalent, equal to approximately 210 tons of CO2 per year not released into the atmosphere. Furthermore, all the electricity purchased is certified as 100% from renewable sources.
