The Prysmian headquarters in Milan is an example of contemporary architecture, combining formal simplicity and advanced technology. The building, rebuilt on the site of a previous demolished structure, stands out for its respect for the principles of environmental sustainability and energy quality. All the demolition materials were recycled, and the new complex was built on the same foundations, avoiding further land consumption. With an area of approximately 22,000 square meters, it includes four buildings interconnected by bioclimatic greenhouses, triple-height spaces with abundant vegetation that improve the quality of working life, thanks to the natural regulation of the microclimate and lighting. The project, which has obtained Leed Platinum certification, includes sustainable technologies such as photovoltaic panels, which cover most of the energy needs, and a lighting and heating management system that makes the most of natural light and reduces solar radiation. The greenhouses, with large windows and adjustable sunshade slats, are equipped with natural cooling systems and roller blinds to control the brightness.
The offices, distributed over three levels, offer open-plan work environments, meeting rooms and relaxation areas, while the third block houses the company management. A fourth block, separate and smaller, is dedicated to conference activities, communication and training. The building maintains a historical element, a former industrial tower, now the symbol of the complex, which represents the past and identity of the site.
This reconversion project, commissioned by Prysmian Group in 2011, aims not only to maintain the productive vocation of the area, but also to renew it to meet modern work and environmental needs. The architectural lines and technical solutions implemented demonstrate how it is possible to combine functionality and sustainability, creating a space that respects the environment and promotes the well-being of workers.
