In a triangular lot surrounded by buildings constructed from the beginning of the century to the 1970s, the project aims to create an apartment building with a distinctly contemporary character, proposing itself as a modern-day stage in a genealogy of Milanese homes. The building, with its characteristic S-shape, is composed of a series of horizontal bands, stacked with slight deviations to determine four layers in the nine floors of the wing. The first three constitute the base layer covered in travertine, with loggias and point windows of constant size. The fourth floor, second layer or piano nobile, is set back from both the base and the Carrara facades above: its glass and metal finish contrasts with these stone surfaces. The third layer, on floors five and six, is articulated by painted metal frames, in a proportionate band on golden rectangles and running along the entire length of the facade. These frames, together with a giant order that links the floors from the fifth to the ninth, protrude from the line of the west facade. On the eastern elevation, they chisel the mass of the building into a delicate carving. The fourth and final layer, a stepped profile on the seventh to ninth floors, is a series of urban villas with large hanging gardens. The project thus conceived aims to contribute to the discussion on the persistence and repetition of architecture, such as the unitary conception, the relations of the parts to the whole, abstraction, materiality.
